erm... at KL training first... the cost fees is around 1500++ la KL training for so many days + go to pulau redang examiniation + certificate erm... can choose for PADI and N (forget the name) personally, i think PADI more pro... they both are the same price...
the level of danger is low since ur coach will alwyas beside you, so dun worry erm... the equipment is all rented one... and there is few grade for the diving the first one, of cuz oso the easiest one is open water and shud take for the master grade one baru qualify to go into deep seas with at least one partner..... open water diver must be accompanied with coach and a group of people...
there is one practical test, eg. in pulau redang one and another one is academic test, means sitting on chair and calculate those oxgen table... shud not be a problem to science stream la... easy cake oni...

1500+ includes what kind of fee? hmm,heard from a diving instructor at perhentian, they offer 950+ for the diving course.not sure abt the detail yet.
